Senior Risk Management Officer


Job Summary:

Responsible for developing and implementing a hospital-wide risk management program and leading the development of appropriate frameworks and processes for the establishment of the program including operational procedures. Also responsible for disseminating knowledge pertaining to risk management procedures and best practices, case reviews and clinical complaints management. Responsible for proactive and reactive risk management activities across the organization; monitoring risks to ensure facility-wide low-risk environment & accreditation compliance with risk management standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and implement the risk management program within the facility incorporating the requirement from the accreditation bodies.
Identify significant risks from risk assessment, risk evaluation, and claims activity and advise the CEO and Senior Management Team as required.
Carry an annual corporate risk analysis exercise, proactive risk assessment exercise as FMEA.
Take responsibility for identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation and risk treatment to minimize institutional risks and loss exposure.
Identification and management of cases requiring in-depth reviews, including the establishment of teams and development of Terms of Reference.
Investigate adverse events or incidents that have reached the patients and analyze trends of near misses and unsafe conditions. Recommend system and/or process changes to improve the safety within the organization.
Review sources for risks identification including but not limited to incident reports, near misses, accidents, adverse events, sentinel events, and patient or other persons complaints within the facility to identify possible risk and mitigate them.
Maintain clinical incident systems and produce reports on a regular basis to senior management and to the relevant committees.
Deliver training and education on healthcare risk and incident management issues to staff.
Promote a culture of safety and incident reporting across the hospital.
Responsible for assessing the Culture of Safety on annual basis.
Co-ordinate the implementation and evaluation of specific risk management projects throughout the hospital.
Liaise with Hospital Legal Advisors, and other regulatory organizations, where necessary.
Investigate and report sentinel events in line with Hospital and Regulatory policy.
Advise staff on clinical risk and legal issues in collaboration with the legal advisor
Manage all clinical complaints from inception to closure.
Liaise with other departments in relation to clinical complaints handling, and the investigation of cases.
Provide periodic reports to the Senior Management Team for the attention of the Board of Directors, to include Trend Analysis and Recommendations from Reviews.
Attend and participate on various Hospital Committees as required.
Represent the Hospital at meetings, conferences, seminars, and other events as requested.
Working within the Quality & Patient Safety Department to identify the need for Quality Improvement Projects and to support and review policies, procedures, and guidelines including ‘Open Disclosure’
Work within the Quality & Patient Safety Department on the ongoing development and review of the Hospital’s Corporate Risk Register.
Work within the Quality & Patient Safety Department to disseminate the learning from both internal and external reports and recommendations.
As part of the Quality & Patient Safety Department work with other departments and relevant personnel within the hospital to ensure safe systems of work are in place for the delivery of patient care.
Day-to-day management of staff within Clinical Risk and Complaints Management scope, including training and adherence to the requirements of the Health Authority.
Undertake training as necessary and keep up-to-date with the current issues, developments and best practice in the Risk Management.
Participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal, and help in identifying own job-related development as part of the Staff Development and Support process.
Provide both basic and complex pro-active and re-active health and safety risk management including risk
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions
Provide in-service education on risk management topics.
Develop and maintain a mutually successful relationship between team members and other individuals participating in the risk management process to facilitate smooth and constructive workflow.
Qualification & Experience:
Medical Background is a Must
Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant field (Desired)
Specialized Certifications:
Recognized certifications such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), CPSP, Certified Quality Analyst (CQA), Certified Quality Management (CQM), Six Sigma (IASSC or ASQ) etc.
Knowledge / Technical Skills:
Professional knowledge and experience in various software program including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio)
In-depth knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficiency in the English language
